Regional premiere of the new documentary Scattered People marking World Refugee Day, organized by the Uki Refugee Project. Mas and Saha, two young Iranian asylum seeker musicians, are navigating a frightening a new world of immigration detention in Brisbane when are discovered by the Scattered People band led by Brian Procopis. Through a shared love of music they once again find hope, community and a way to be heard. Scattered People tackles themes of justice, compassion and equity, featuring interviews with musicians including Missy Higgins, John Butler, Dan Sultan, Archie Roach, Michael Franti, Harry James Angus (The Cat Empire), Baker Boy and Katie Noonan – details about the film at www.scatteredpeoplefilm.org After the screening Q&A with filmmakers John and Lizzi Swatland plus some of the film's stars - Iranian musician Mas, choirmistress Yani Mills and Scattered People musical director, Robbie James from legendary bands GANGgajang and Yothu Indi. Before the screening Iranian musician and poet Sahar will perform on the Regent's balcony. All proceeds to support refugee and asylum seekers.
